Infant of 9 months fatally sodomised
A 21-year-old child molester from Arnett Gardens, South St Andrew was arrested early this week following the death of his 9-month-old relative who he is suspected of having brutally sodomised.
Now in the custody of officers from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, the young accused is suspected of molesting the infant boy on more than one occasion and according to Superintendent Delroy Hewitt of the West Kingston police station, the suspect is also believed to be mentally challenged.
Born in the Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre to a mom who is currently serving a five year sentence, the baby boy died at the Bustamante Hospital for Children and his anus and abdomen were very badly damaged according to police.
The incarcerated new mother had identified a female relative to be the child's guardian after giving birth to him in prison and police reported further that the infant's guardian left him to be cared for by neighbours when he was fatally assaulted.
The Department of Correctional Services has reported that the father of the child will be able to get special visits with the incarcerated woman, who is also being supported psychologically by the department.
