Attorney-at-law Michael Deans filed a writ of habeas corpus in court yesterday for the release of his client, Adidjah Palmer, a.k.a Vybz Kartel, who was picked up by a joint task force for questioning on Wednesday.
The lawyer returns to court today to make an application for the release of the deejay who is yet to be charged in connection with any crime. Habeas corpus is Latin for "We command] that you have the body" and is the name of a legal action, or writ, through which a person can seek relief from unlawful detention of himself or another person. According to Wikipedia, the writ of habeas corpus has historically been an important instrument for the safeguarding of individual freedom against arbitrary state action.
